Discus 9CD - Various artists - Sound Gallery.
Overview

Sound Gallery is the second Discus CD to compile works by five composers, and this volume mixes acoustic and electronic compositions.

Michael Szpakowski's Three Paintings of Edward Hopper is a finely crafted suite of pieces for piano, detailed yet understated, and very much in the spirit of the New York school.

Martin Archer contributes Silver and white sequences for Helmut Lemke, a solo synthesizer piece in the style of Ghost Lily Cascade's electronic works. Also present is the shorter 88 enemies (nine), part of an on going series of works designed to sound "almost like contemporary piano music".

Tim Risher was originally a contributor to Network Vol. 2. Three Risher compositions are included here, The Only Reality Is In Your Head Parts I & III , minimal rhythmic pieces fashioned from simple yet striking sounds, bookend the beautiful and other worldly In Paradiso.

Nik Bizzell - Browning's composition is These Hands Aren't Mine, a complex multi textural and fast moving setting of some highly individual text by the composer, perhaps in the tradition of some of Zappa's synclavier works.

Finally, veteran Essex based composer Dal Strutt, who also appears on Network Vol. 2 returns the listener to an acoustic sound world with the self explanatory Variations for B flat clarinet and For Francis Alexander, an atmospheric live recording of her piece for baritone voice and piano.
