Chris Bywater - a rough guide

Born Bradford, England 1st August 1958. Played bass in local groups and participated in several productions by Café Despard Surreal Cabaret and Orchestra during the 1970s. Moved to composing and improvising using electronics in the early 1980s, working with percussionist Colin Lloyd (who also used electronics) for live performances. Later worked on music for productions by Irish playwright Sean Moore culminating in the multimedia presentation "Guernica" at Bradford Theatre in the Mill in 1986.

A gap exists between 1987 and 1993 following cessation of the working relationship with Lloyd who gave up music to concentrate full time on visual arts, plus non musical commitments and interests. Music was still being produced during this period, in isolation and mostly unrecorded.

In 1993 Transient v Resident was formed after a chance introduction by Ben Watson, who was aware that Martin Archer was searching for a collaborator experienced in working with synthesizers and electronics after the breakup of Hornweb. The duo hit it off immediately, and began to record and perform from that point on.
